I had coffee today with a friend. As I walked into the front door and took my first whiff of the baked goods and caffeinated happiness I was about to put in my hungry face, I was finishing an internal conversation that sounded something like this:

“I don’t have time for this”
“I should be using this time this morning to get work done”
“I need to use my work time for work, not to socialize with a friend”
“I will make this short so I can get back to work”

Well, you know what? The two hour coffee date (yeah, didn’t cut it short, I was having too much fun!) turned out to be the MOST amazing creative time for me.

cre·a·tiv·i·ty
ˌkrēāˈtivədē/
noun. the use of the imagination or original ideas,
especially in the production of an artistic work.

I realized today how important it is to remember that the canvas of our life requires an artist to paint it.

If we do not create time for creativity,
our lives will never be the masterpiece we desire.

Making space to converse, connect, self-educate and bounce ideas around with other is critical to the creative process.

When I left my social session this morning, the initial guilt I had was a waste. I ended up getting several great business ideas during my creative carve-out and even though I started my work day later, I started it revitalized.

Do not discount the need for creative space. You have to make it to make more out of your life!
